About Sheffield

Sheffield is ideally located in the centre of the UK, 75 minutes by train from Manchester Airport and 2.5 hours from London.

Sheffield is the UK’s fifth largest city, and has a very multicultural atmosphere. It is home to two world-class universities and Europe's largest Further Education College. Sheffield's two universities have a combined student body of more than 50,000 amongst which are more than 7,000 international students representing more than 120 different countries.

The cost of living in Sheffield are relatively low. In a survey by The Royal Bank of Scotland in 2007, on the cost of living for students in the UK, Sheffield was found to have the lowest cost of living in the UK. Sheffield is also a friendly, welcoming and safe city. According to UK government statistics it is the safest large city in the UK. 

Sheffield is also very green: it has 150 woodlands and 50 public parks, and is ideally situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, which is one of the most popular national parks in the UK.

Sheffield has two very good Student Unions of which the University of Sheffield Student Union was recently voted by students as being the best in the UK. Sheffield has a vibrant nightlife and cultural scene and has the title of the UK's National City of Sports due to its large number of sports facilities and major international sport events that are held in the city every year.

It comes as no surprise that over the years Sheffield has become one of the UK's most popular study destinations.
