About The Sheffield College
The Sheffield College is one of the largest colleges of higher and further education in the UK and every year hundreds of students from over 80 countries come to the College to learn English and to study academic and vocational courses.
The College has over 30 years of experience of of teaching English to international students and all its English language courses are accredited by the British Council. The college offers a range of general English language programmes and specialist courses such as IELTS (International English Language Testing System), University of Cambridge ESOL examinations and a Business English Certificate.
Students will be taught by a team of highly qualified and experienced EFL tutors and English teachers and all programmes include an attractive sports and social events programme. Accommodation can be provided as part of any study programme.
Courses Available
International English for Students from Overseas
This full-time general English courses runs throughout the year and students can enrol for one year, half a year, 3 months or just a few weeks as required. On arrival, students are given an assessment test and placed in a group best suited to their needs (beginner, elementary, intermediate or advanced.) Special programmes can also be designed for groups or individuals.
Students study for 20 hours per week and classes take place each morning and in the afternoon at the Sheffield City College building in the centre of Sheffield. Students will attend skill based classes such as writing, IELTS preparation and exam practice and will also be able to opt for Business English, individual speaking practice and internet sessions.
English Summer School
During July and August, Sheffield College offers an International Summer School that attracts students from all over the world.
The Summer School offers general English courses to international students at any level (beginner, elementary, intermediate or advanced) and students are assessed on arrival to ascertain their level of English before being places in an appropriate group. Progress is monitored constantly so that students can gain the maximum benefit from their stay in Sheffield.
Formal classes take place for 20 hours each week (Monday to Friday) and there is a full day excursion each Saturday and a half day activity each weekday. The Summer School is for people with a limited amount of time to make rapid progress in English, learn about the British way of life and spend an enjoyable summer in Sheffield and England.
Students can use this time to improve their IELTS score or take the IELTS exam for the first time at the end of their course.
Accommodation
Intercambio and Sheffield College can help arrange accommodation as part of any of the college's English language courses with either a British host family or in a self-catering student Halls of Residence. Please note that students under the age of 18 must stay with a British host family unless written permission is received from a parent/guardian.
