Anglolang is an international English language school located in the seaside resort of Scarborough on the beautiful North Yorkshire coast. Established in 1985 Anglolang has an international reputation for providing top quality English language courses for companies, educational institutions, organised groups and individual applicants. Why Study at Anglolang

Anglolang's English teachers are experienced, many with degrees in a range of subjects and further specialist qualifications in English Language Teaching. Most have worked abroad for a number of years and they all understand the needs of students living and studying in a new environment. The school has an excellent staff-student ratio and you will never find more than 6-15 students per class (depending on type of course and time of year.) Anglolang offers students a flexible course structure and teachers consult their students and then tailor lessons to meet their needs. This is known as the ‘negotiated syllabus’ which gives students flexibility and choice.

Lessons are based around topics, such as work, travel, life in Britain or current affairs. Topics are chosen in consultation with a class and then tailored to match the needs and interests of students as part of the ‘negotiated syllabus’. Teachers also focus on developing speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Speaking, for example, is improved through discussion, role-play, mini-presentations and pronunciation activities. Vocabulary is a very important part of all lessons at Anglolang and teachers give advice on how to effectively record, learn and activate vocabulary. Writing for communicative purposes, such as letters, reports and essays, is often practised as homework. Communicative teaching methods are used to develop the skills needed to communicate in English with confidence.

Students are required to do a placement test before they arrive and students will be placed in a class according to their level of English and teaching is adjusted appropriately. Whilst Anglolang organises some study visits as an integral part of your course the school can also arrange study visits to suit individual requirements according to your job or areas of specific interest, e.g. visits to schools, hospitals, social services or companies.

Accommodation

Anglolang is very proud of the standards of accommodation that are available. Some of Anglolang's host families have welcomed international students to their home for more than ten years. All accommodation is conveniently located within walking distance of the school, the town centre and the beach. It is selected and inspected by an experienced Accommodation & Welfare Team.

Homestay (Standard or Executive*)

• A standard bedroom in a family’s house** Students will get their own set of keys so you can come and go as you please.
• Homestay comes on a Full-Board basis (breakfast, packed lunch and dinner.)
• Bed linen and towels are provided.
• All utility charges and cleaning are included.
• All hostfamilies live within 2-20 minutes walking distance of the school.
• Students that book homestay accommodation will receive a profile of the host family before they arrive in the UK. Students are encouraged to exchange communication with their host family to allow them to get to know the family with whom you will be staying.
• You will not be placed with students from the same nationality in the same family (unless specifically requested by the student.)

*Executive Homestay provides students with their own private bathroom.
**Students below the age of 18 may find that they have to share a bedroom with another student.

Self-Catering Flat

• A standard room in a shared house accommodating 2 to 6 people in total. Students will get their own set of keys so you can come and go as you please.
• All accommodation is fully furnished and has a private bathroom and cooking facilities.  
• Flats are on a self-catering basis which means that students will have to do their own cooking.
• All utility charges and cleaning are included.
• Self-catering flats are only available to students 18 or over.

Guest House

A guest house is a small hotel with a homely atmosphere. The emphasis is on personal and individual service for guests. Depending on budget, a room with or without bathroom can be chosen. Breakfast is included and dinner is optional at some guest houses. Most rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and a television. Private apartments, houses and cottages are only available to adults (over 18 years old) or families.
