Founded in 1936, Eastbourne School of English (ESOE) is located in the town of Eastbourne on the south coast of England. ESOE has more than 70 years’ experience offering quality English language courses and Teacher Training courses. Accredited by the British Council, ESOE is an independent language school with a clear commitment to excellence in teaching and a genuine care for the welfare of its students.
The school is located in a quiet, tree-lined street in the centre of Eastbourne, just two minutes from the shopping centre and five minutes from the beach. Eastbourne is a delightful seaside town with excellent shopping, beautiful parks, theatres, cinemas, art galleries and a spectacular five-kilometre seafront. It has a population of 100.000, and restaurants, clubs, cafés and bars to suit every taste. Eastbourne is large enough for students to feel independent and have plenty to do but small enough to walk around and feel safe.
The school offers a variety of high quality programmes including General English and examination courses for adults as well as summer vacation courses and special courses such as a very popular Fifty Plus programme for senior students and English plus Golf, Tennis or Rugby. ESEO also offers specialist Teacher Training courses for overseas teachers.
The school has excellent facilities. There are 20 classrooms, interactive white boards and video and audio equipment. After lessons students can use the self-access learning centre with free broadband internet and email, TVs with video and a language laboratory.
“I’ve had a really good time in this school! To know people from other countries has been wonderful! And I’ve felt very comfortable with my teachers.” Alejandra Blanco Callejo, Spain
Eastbourne, only 90 minutes by train from London, is a popular seaside destination, famous for its beautiful setting between the unspoiled countryside of the South Downs and the sea, overlooking the English channel. The school is located right in the centre of Eastbourne and therefore all the town's facilities are within easy walking distance. Eastbourne is a quiet, safe place with lots of facilities for students and many outdoor events being organised over the summer period. There is a large shopping centre, plenty of restaurants, bars and discos, two large sports centres, three museums, an art gallery, three theatres, a multiplex cinema and numerous parks. A major tennis tournament is held every year at the town's Devonshire Park. Eastbourne's Sovereign Harbour is the largest boat marina in Europe, with places for over 1100 boats.
The famous Seven Sisters White Cliffs and Beachy Head are nearby and offer spectacular views over the town and the sea. To the west of the town lie the South Downs offering beautiful landscapes and unspoilt towns and villages.
Students at ESOE will benefit from a social programme which will give students lots of opportunities to enjoy themselves, meet other students and practise their English in a relaxed way. The school employs a permanent social organiser who arranges a variety of activities including sport activities, theatre and cinema visits and evening events at the school including international meals, parties and barbeques. At weekends there are full-day guided excursions to main tourist destinations such as London, Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, Canterbury and Stonehenge. Students that attend the Fifty Plus programme will benefit from social activities and excursions to historic town and cities, castles, parks and gardens, villages and the spectacular Sussex and Kent countryside. Fifty Plus students can also play traditional English games such as bowls and croquet.
“Thank you very much for everything! I liked that there were not only young students but also elder people studying, too. I did not feel like a grandmother because of that.” Alex, Brazil
ESOE is accredited by the British Council and is a member of EnglishUK and founding member of Quality English.“My time in Eastbourne was great! I was warmly welcomed at my first day at school and during all the time the teachers were nice and helpful. The timetable was just perfect. It allowed us to do lots of free time activities, which the school staff organized well!” Marco, Italy
