Founded in 1936, Eastbourne School of English (ESOE) is located in the town of Eastbourne on the south coast of England. ESOE has more than 70 years’ experience offering quality English language courses and Teacher Training courses. Eastbourne School of English - Learning CentreThe school has excellent facilities. There are 20 classrooms, interactive white boards and video and audio equipment. After lessons students can use the self-access learning centre with free broadband internet and email, TVs with video and a language laboratory.

About Eastbourne

Eastbourne BeachEastbourne, only 90 minutes by train from London, is a popular seaside destination, famous for its beautiful setting between the unspoiled countryside of the South Downs and the sea, overlooking the English channel. The school is located right in the centre of Eastbourne and therefore all the town's facilities are within easy walking distance. Eastbourne is a quiet, safe place with lots of facilities for students and many outdoor events being organised over the summer period. There is a large shopping centre, plenty of restaurants, bars and discos, two large sports centres, three museums, an art gallery, three theatres, a multiplex cinema and numerous parks. A major tennis tournament is held every year at the town's Devonshire Park. Eastbourne's Sovereign Harbour is the largest boat marina in Europe, with places for over 1100 boats.

The famous Seven Sisters White Cliffs and Beachy Head are nearby and offer spectacular views over the town and the sea. To the west of the town lie the South Downs offering beautiful landscapes and unspoilt towns and villages.

Eastbourne School of English - 50 Plus Study GroupStudents at ESOE will benefit from a social programme which will give students lots of opportunities to enjoy themselves, meet other students and practise their English in a relaxed way. The school employs a permanent social organiser who arranges a variety of activities including sport activities, theatre and cinema visits and evening events at the school including international meals, parties and barbeques. At weekends there are full-day guided excursions to main tourist destinations such as London, Cambridge, Oxford, Bath,  Canterbury and Stonehenge. Students that attend the Fifty Plus programme will benefit from social activities and excursions to historic town and cities, castles, parks and gardens, villages and the spectacular Sussex and Kent countryside. Fifty Plus students can also play traditional English games such as bowls and croquet.

Accommodation

ESOE works with a group of carefully selected host families to allow students to experience the English way of life. Staying with a host family will allow students to continue to practise their English outside the school environment. The school employs a full-time Accommodation Officer that inspects all host families and families are selected to look after students and ensure they have a memorable and enjoyable experience.
All international students are guaranteed homestay accommodation for the duration of their studies and all accommodation is within walking distance from the school. Students can also opt to stay in a shared student house or get a room in a student residence during the summer period.

Homestay (Standard)

  • Eastbourne School of English - Homestay AccommodationA standard bedroom in a family’s house. Each bedroom will be furnished and include a study desk. Students will get their own set of keys so you can come and go as you please.
  • Students stay on a Half Board basis (Breakfast + Dinner will be provided with lunch or packed lunch at weekends)
  • Bed linen and towels are provided.
  • All utility charges and cleaning are included.
  • Students will never be placed with another student with the same first language unless specially requested by the student.
  • All host families are within walking distance or a short bus-ride of the school.
  • Host families will encourage students to speak English whenever possible.
  • Your accommodation will be changed as soon as possible if you are unhappy for any reason.

Shared Student House

  • Eastbourne School of English - Student HouseA standard large bedroom in a house shared with other students. There are usually 5 to 10 students per house.
  • Students will get their own set of keys so you can come and go as you please.
  • All houses have a shared kitchen and bathroom. 
  • This type of accommodation is on a self-catering basis only which means that students will have to do their own cooking and a fully equipped kitchen will be available to students.
  • All houses provide free wireless internet access.
  • All utility charges and cleaning of central areas are included.
  • All shared student houses are within a 5 to 10 minute walking distance from the school and the town centre.
  • Rooms in shared student houses are available from June to September. 

Student Residence

  • Eastbourne School of English - Student ResidenceA standard bedroom in a student residence that belongs to the University of Brighton.
  • Accommodation is arranged in groups of 6-8 single rooms.
  • Students will get their own set of keys so you can come and go as you please.
  • Each room has its own private bathroom.
  • This accommodation is on a self-catering basis only which means that students will have to do their own cooking and a fully equipped shared kitchen will be available to students.
  • Bed linen and towels are provided.
  • All utility charges and cleaning of central areas are included.
  • On-campus restaurant offers students breakfast at an additional cost.
  • Rooms in student residences is available in July and August only and students need to be minimum 18 years of age.
