About the TESOL Centre

Sheffield Hallam University, City CampusAll courses at the TESOL Centre are taught from Sheffield Hallam University's modern city campus, right in the centre of Sheffield. Students have access to a range of facilities, from modern classroom facilities to the university's cafes, restaurant and a range of sports and recreational facilities such as the Students' Union. Some courses include a programme of social activities and visits to places of interest in and around Sheffield although there will be extra cost for some of these activities. The TESOL Centre organises general English language courses for non-native speakers of English who want to improve their general and academic English. Students can choose between 15 or 21 hours of teaching per week and the course will help students develop their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, enabling them to communicate in English in social and professional situations. At the TESOL Centre students will be taught by qualified and experienced teachers and the maximum number of students per class is 15. The courses run from January until September each year and minimum enrolment is 4 weeks.

Sheffield Hallam University, City CampusThe Academic English Preparatory Courses are for non-native speakers of English who want to improve their language skills for general and academic purposes, while experiencing life in Britain. This course is particularly useful if you need to improve your English for study purposes at a UK university. Courses run from September to June each year. The Pre-sessional English Language Programme is for international students who are about to start an undergraduate or postgraduate course at Sheffield Hallam University or another university in the UK as it aims to help students develop their academic English skills which are required at university. The course has a short summer course (June to August) or autumn course (September to December) as well.

Sheffield Hallam University, Student GroupThe TESOL Centre also offers an IELTS Examination Preparation Course aimed at students who are planning to take the IELTS (International English Language Testing Systems) examination. The examination can be taken at the TESOL centre at Sheffield Hallam University. Class sizes are restricted to 15 students, and students are given regular homework and self-study guidance to help practise and revise classwork.
