Undergraduate & postgraduate study

Undergraduate study

An undergraduate programme is usually started after a student has completed their secondary or pre-university education.
Different countries have different names for pre-university education (i.e. A-Levels, High School or Preparatoria.)

Undergraduate programmes lead to a Bachelor qualification such as a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), Bachelor of Law (LLB) or a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Most Bachelor degrees are three years in length but others can take longer such as a Master of Engineering (MEng, 4 years) or Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (5 years)

Postgraduate study

Postgraduate programmes in the UK are divided into Masters and Research Courses (PhDs)

Taught Masters and Research Masters normally last one year full time and a PhD study normally lasts a minimum of three years full time.
