Undergraduate & postgraduate study
Undergraduate study
Students normally start an undergraduate degree course after having completed secondary or pre-university education.
Different countries use different names for pre-university education (e.g. A-Levels, High School or Preparatoria.)
Undergraduate courses lead to a Bachelor qualification such as a Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), Bachelor of Law (LLB) or a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). Most Bachelor courses are three years in length but others can take longer such as a Master of Engineering (MEng, 4 years) or Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (5 years)
Postgraduate study
Postgraduate courses in the UK are divided into Masters and Research courses (PhDs)
Taught Masters and Research Masters normally take one year of
full-time study to complete and if you want to qualify for a PhD you need to have normally studied for a minimum of three years full-time, often following completion of a Masters degree.
